During Milan Design Week 2025 cc-tapis presented Ways of Seeing, a collective exhibition curated by Giga. At the core of the exhibition lies the intention to highlight how technology can intersect with craftmanship in interesting and unexpected ways, by shedding a light on processes that go often unnoticed in a world saturated with visual stimuli.
An installation of works from 11 designer and artists – each one expressing of an idea formed used a different rug-making technique and paired with a seemingly blank monitor suspended next to it.
At the entrance of the space the visitors are handed a peculiar device, a viewing screen – an item capable of bridging the gap between analogue and digital. Only by looking through the device can one really see what’s actually going on the monitors and the image be revealed.
The technical setup behind the installation reflects a hands-on approach to rethinking standard display technologies. By deconstructing and modifying traditional LCD screens, we explored how digital images are formed and perceived. This process not only exposed the inner workings of the medium but also allowed us to reframe the screen as a physical, manipulable object–blurring the line between display and material.
The exhibition, inspired by John Berger’s Ways of Seeing, explores materiality in physical and digital forms, questioning how objects–and screens–can be perceived beyond surface. Berger’s idea that images are shaped by context frames a reflection on the digital/analogue divide and invites a more intimate engagement with technology.
